Ayutthaya is a majestic historical site and also a modern city of Thialand. It was once the biggest cities in Southwast Asia. Ayutthaya remained as the capital city of Thailand for 417 years. It is nestled in the Central Plains of Thailand and situated to the north of Bangkok.
This rich, mighty and cultural land of Ayutthaya reached its peak during the 16th century. It also had immense importance in International commerce. The innumerable magnificent historical structures and ruins, scattered in and around the city of Ayutthaya bear the traces of past glory. This magnificent city was built by King U-Thong.

The famous places to visit in Ayutthaya are:
- Wat Phra Si Sanphet: This famous temple in Ayutthaya
is also the largest one. Special attraction of this temple
is the Thai-style stupas, known as Chedis. This temple is
housed within the grounds of former royal palace.
- Viharm Phra Mongkol Bopitah: This temple is famous
for the large bronze cast image of Lord Buddha.
- Wat Thammikarat: It is a working wat. The ruins
of large chediand a huge wiham are added attractions.
- Ancient Palace: Bears only the low-lying ruins
of buildings scattered over a large area with a few standing
buildings.

The other attractions of Ayutthaya are:
- Khun Phaen Residence: A traditional teak house
set in a beautiful park. The house has been renovated.
- Phra Ram Park: This is a wooded area with great
number of statues, images of Buddha and buildings. This
scenic place is spread over a large land with a number of
paths and bridges over the waterways.
- Monument of King Naresuan the Great: Situated
on the entrance road to Wat Phu Khao Thong, this is a spectacular
bronze statue of King Naresuan.
At present Ayutthaya is divided into sixteen districts.
