An Thong was originally known as Muang Wiset Chai Chan. It is a small province of Thailand. It is nestled on the Noi river. This scenic place is about 108 km north of Bangkok. An Thong consist of 7 districts, they are,

The major attractions of An Thong are,
- Wat Ton Son: This old temple of Wat Ton Son is
located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. Hear
you can see the lovely image of the seated Buddha which
is known as “Somdet Phra Si Muang”.
- Wat Khoi: This is a riverside temple that is located
at Tambon Pho Rang Nok in Amphoe Pho Thong. The temple houses
a nice museum with fascinating display of boats and tools.
The special attraction of this place is Noi River, just
in front of the temple. Watching a variety of 50, 000 fishes
in the river is a real delight. This area was declared as
the Fish Sanctuary in 1985.
- Wat Pa Mok Worawihan: This is remarkable temple,
nestled on the west bank of Chao Phraya River in Amphoe
Pa Mok. It is located 18 km south of An Thong. The majestic
image of this temple is a Reclining Buddha. The image is
built of brick and mortar and covered with gold.
- Wat Tha Sutthawat: This place is famous for the
Buddha temple with historical remains of several period.
The temple has gone through renovation for several times.
The temple is nestled on the east bank of Chao Phraya River
at Tambon Bang Sadet in Amphoe Pa Mok. It is located 15
km to the south of An Thong.
- Wat Chaiyo Worawihan: Thois place is located 18
km from Ang Thong and enshrines Phra Maha Phutta Phim. The
large image of Lord Buddha in seated posture, deep in meditation
is a famous one. This beautiful temple was constructed by
King Rama IV.
The other remarkable places of An Thong are, Wat Khun Inthapramun
and Pha Thamnak Khamayat. |
