The Thai are basically fun loving people and most of the Thai festivals are marked by great pomp and splendor. Colorful street processions are an important part of most of the Thai festivals. There are several Thai festivals that are celebrated all throughout the year.

Some of the most popular Thai festivals are as
follows:
- Kite Flying Festival: This is a much waited festival
in Thailand amongst people of all age groups. The origin
of this festival can be traced back to nearly 3000 years
ago. This festival is celebrated when the South West Monsoon
Winds blows from the Gulf of Thailand blows over Thailand
from February to the end of April. The participants make
colorful kites of different shapes and designs and fly them
in the sky. People from all over the world visit Thailand
to participate in this Thai festival.
- The Moon Festival: This is a Chinese festival
celebrated in the honor of the birth of the Moon Goddess.
Since Diana or the moon goddess was a female deity, this
festival is mostly celebrated by the female population in
Thailand. Typical Chinese dishes are made on the day of
the festival. The specialty of the festival are the Chinese
Moon Cakes that are made for the occasion.
- The Poy Sang Long festival: This is a 3 day festival
celebrated by the Tai or Shans Yaian ethnic tribe of Thailand.
During this festival boys of the age group from 7 years
to 14 years shave off their head to become a novice and
learn the lessons of Lord Buddha. This festival comprises
of colorful street festivals.
- Chinese Vegetarian Festival: This festival is
celebrated according to the Chinese calender on the 9th
lunar month. This festival lasts for 9 days and is marked
by great celebrations. This festival is observed by the
Buddhist population of Thailand. People wear white robes
during this period, follow vegetarianism and follow the
10 rules of Buddha.
